Facing presents two profiles in silent confrontation — or perhaps recognition. Rendered in ivory, warm grey, and black, their forms emerge from and dissolve back into a surface of layered texture and burnished gold. Neither figure is fully present. Neither is entirely absent. They exist at the threshold of visibility, the way people sometimes exist at the threshold of truly seeing one another.
 
The gold moves through the composition not as decoration but as revelation — breaking through the grey and black in horizontal bands, catching what the figures cannot quite say. The surface itself feels worked and reworked, as though the artist kept returning, kept asking the same question the painting asks: what does it mean to truly face another person?
